The Black Entertainment Economic Council invites aspiring screenwriters to attend our Screenwriting 101 workshop.
Participants will be guided by the seasoned expertise of Crystal D. Garrett, a distinguished Writer-Producer with a remarkable 25-year career in the film and television industry. With a portfolio boasting collaborations with industry giants like Will Packer and Tyler Perry Studios, Garrett's workshop explores the fundamentals of screenwriting, offering invaluable insights into storytelling techniques, character development, and narrative structures.
Drawing from her own success stories, including the streaming of her screenplay "Let the Church Say Amen" on Netflix, Garrett will share the intricacies of navigating the entertainment industry, emphasizing diversity and representation.

Meet The Instructor
Crystal D. Garrett is a Writer-Producer with over 25 years of experience in the film and television industry. She has an independent docuseries in production, a Hallmark movie in development, and writes for a hit BET sitcom. She has worked with titans of the business like Will Packer, Codeblack Entertainment, Bounce TV Network, and Tyler Perry Studios and optioned an original television pilot to Warner Brothers Television.
Garrett's screenplay, Let the Church Say Amen, streamed on Netflix and aired on BET. The project was directed by Emmy award winner, Regina King, and produced by the Viacom / BET Network in collaboration with Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit.
Among Garrett's literary accolades are being selected as a one-hour semi-finalist for ABC/Disney Writing Fellowship, two-time Scriptapalooza First Prize Winner for a half-hour, Issa Rae's Color Creative TV top three semi-finalists, and selected as Writer's Digest top ten one-hour television writers.
Garrett graduated from the prestigious Old Globe Theatre's Professional Actors Program, University of San Diego with a Master of Fine Arts degree. She was one of only seven students chosen nationwide and given a full academic scholarship. She originated a lead role on the Broadway stage in New York City.
Originally from Seattle, Washington, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Washington State University where she was a scholar-athlete.
