The Black Entertainment Economic Council invites you to attend our monthly free workshop centered on industry veteran Rusty Cundieff's journey from being a working actor to building a multi-faceted career as a director in both film and TV. 

His long-term colleague Bobby Mardis, will facilitate the conversation helping attendees understand the process and the choices that help Rusty build and sustain a successful creative career.

Meet The Instructor
George Arthur "Rusty" Cundieff, is a multifaceted American talent, renowned as a film and television director, actor, and writer. His impactful contributions to the entertainment industry include directorial gems like "Fear of a Black Hat" (1993), "Tales from the Hood" (1995), and his involvement in the groundbreaking "Chappelle's Show" (2003–2006).

Upon graduating from the University of Southern California in 1982, Cundieff embarked on a career in stand-up comedy in Los Angeles while actively seeking acting opportunities. His breakthrough came with a year-long portrayal of Theo Carver on "Days of Our Lives" in 1985. In 1988, he played Big Brother Chucky in Spike Lee's "School Daze," an experience that ignited his passion for writing and directing in addition to acting.

In 1995, he directed and co-wrote the horror anthology "Tales from the Hood," a project that he revisited with sequels in 2018 and 2020 – "Tales from the Hood 2" and "Tales from the Hood 3."

Throughout his career, Cundieff has showcased his diverse talents, including notable contributions to television. He directed episodes for "The Bernie Mac Show" (2006) and played a pivotal role in the cultural phenomenon "Chappelle's Show" (2003–2006). Additionally, he served as a segment director for 21 episodes of "The Wanda Sykes Show" (2009-2010).

In recent years, Cundieff has continued to make his mark in the film industry, directing projects such as "57 Seconds" (2023), demonstrating his enduring creativity and commitment to storytelling.
