Workforce
Development
One of our key
operational priorities is workforce development. In this area, the main objective is to facilitate targeted career and professional development opportunities, that address dominant work-related needs across every aspect of the industry, and at every stage of knowledge and experience.
This series of workshops is designed for early to mid-career professionals looking to build their working knowledge. Well-experienced professionals across the wide spectrum of the industry may also find value in building their overall knowledge of the filmmaking process.

Through their company, Cupcake Rapture Studios - a boutique production house focused on commercial content, Leland and Phaedra have worked in many aspects of the film Industry. Phaedra has been a script reader for over seven years reading for production companies such as Netflix, Universal, and Paramount.
Leland is an established film director and editor who has edited several short films, feature-length movies, music videos, and attention-grabbing commercial content. He has directed several award-winning short films as well as his debut feature film, Empathy.

Animation allows you to communicate ideas quickly and sharply while educating and entertaining an audience. Fatimah will elaborate on this art form and explain its cost-effective production processes.

BWA Studios is the only Black woman-owned and operated animation studio in North America - hiring Black women, women of color, and non-binary POC first.
Fatimah has more than 15 years of experience in advertising and entertainment. Specializing in animation and VFX, she has spearheaded VR, TV and games production across all platforms for global brands including HBO, Sesame Street, PBS KIDS, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.

Visual Storytelling
(Cinematography 101)
Directors of
Photography (DP), also known as cinematographers, work with directors
to determine how to shoot a film or TV program using a combination of
3 key elements - light, composition, and camera movement. Alfeo will
lead a discussion about the role the DP plays in the successful
outcome of a film while offering some basic cinematography
techniques.

Alfeo
Dixon has been working in the camera department on major Hollywood
productions for more than 15 years. He has served as Steadicam and
camera operator on productions such as The Crossover,
Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, Ozark, Lee Daniel's series Star,
and Ava Duvernay's DC series Naomi. He is also an award-winning Director of Photography with credits that include Body
And Son and Sons 2 The Grave.

A Mechanical Multiverse
(Multi-cam Directing 101)
Taught by
Tre James
Whether it’s a live
or scripted show for television or film, the use of multiple cameras
allows a director to optimize the coverage of a production. Tre will
share his experiences working as a multi-cam director as well as
offer insight and knowledge required to have a successful career
working in live events.

possible. Furthermore, with advances in technology, there are a lot
more ways to capitalize on a project.

national distribution on a film, Joe will share what he learned
throughout the process.

Joe Howell is the Managing Director of
Stage Ten Media, a
Film, Music, and Digital Media Production Company. Joe has worked in
the film and music industries for over 20 years as a Filmmaker,
engineer, music producer, director, and writer. He produced the
feature documentary film
"Let The Church Say," which was nominated at the 2022
American Black Film Festival
and the
2023 Pan African Film Festival. The film received an
ICFF Audience Choice Award.

Producing: Basic Principles and Practices

Using her extensive
experience working on shows such as Married at First Sight,
Titletown High, and The Real Housewives:
Ultimate Girls Trip, Alicia Godsmasch will share real-world
insight and best practices on producing. Attendees will get a
meaningful overview of the hard and soft skills required to become a
successful producer.
Meet The Instructor
Alicia Godmasch is an American producer, author, and location manager who attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where she graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Business Management. Alicia went on to work as an Event Producer for some of the world's most successful multinational corporations before starting her career full-time in the entertainment industry. In 2021, Alicia published her first novel,
"Retrograde: The Darkness" a Science Fiction story about an elite army fighting an Ancient Evil force. The book was given "two thumbs up" by
TV Guide Magazine and was featured on
Gizmodo's Must Read List for December 2021.

As “above-the-line” creative execs develop and budget for motion picture projects, it’s the day-to-day leadership of the “below-the-line” crew that brings those ideas to life. Tanya will explain the role of the production manager and how they work with the head of each department to bring concepts to the screen.

Through her company Agent 99 Films, Tanya has experience with a rich variety of films, TV shows, commercials, and branded content, working on projects for Hulu, McDonald's, Nike, Revlon, Merrill Lynch, Disney, Google, and American Express. Some of Tanya's music projects include work with Celine Dion, Usher, Iggy Pop, and Brittney Spears.
